Starzplay has secured a renewed three-year exclusive broadcast rights deal for Italian soccer’s Serie A in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA), extending its coverage through the 2027-28 season.
Details of the Agreement
The deal, valued at €28 million (US$32.6 million), ensures that Starzplay will continue to deliver every Serie A match live and on demand, complete with dual-language commentary in both Arabic and English. Coverage will be complemented by match replays, highlight packages, and in-depth analysis.
The renewal was finalized just before the league’s 2025-26 season kicked off on August 23, underscoring Starzplay’s commitment to consolidating its sports content portfolio in the region.
Starzplay’s Position in MENA Sports Broadcasting
Starzplay first acquired Serie A rights in 2022, competing against Abu Dhabi Media, which had previously showcased the league. The platform has since strengthened its positioning as a premier digital destination for sports across MENA, with additional properties including the AFC Asian Cup, UFC, PFL, and professional golf.
Serie A and Starzplay will also collaborate on regional events with broadcasters and media outlets, designed to deepen fan engagement and amplify the league’s presence in a strategically important market.
Global Context
Starzplay’s renewed investment comes as Serie A continues to diversify its global media footprint:
- Brazil: CazeTV, the streaming platform founded by agency LiveMode and influencer Casimiro Miguel, added Serie A to its lineup of European soccer leagues earlier this month.
- International Markets: DAZN holds rights in the UK, US, and multiple territories, while also sharing domestic Italian rights with pay-TV giant Sky Italia.
Strategic Outlook
For Serie A, securing a long-term partner in MENA ensures both visibility and stability in a region where football demand is surging. For Starzplay, the deal reinforces its strategy of differentiating through premium live sports, positioning the platform as a credible alternative to traditional broadcasters.
As competition for football rights intensifies globally, this extension highlights the importance of strategic regional partnerships in sustaining league revenues and building international fan bases.
