Sky Sports has strengthened its long-standing relationship with the National Football League (NFL), signing a new three-year extension that expands coverage for fans in the UK and Ireland ahead of the 2025 season.
The deal, which builds on a partnership spanning more than 30 years, not only renews Sky’s exclusive rights but also increases the volume of live games and international fixtures available on its platforms.
Expanded Game Slate
As part of the new agreement, Sky retains exclusive access to the first-pick Sunday 6pm and 9pm fixtures, while adding three additional live games:
- A second game in the Sunday 6pm slot
- Two additional games in the Sunday 9pm slot
These will be broadcast concurrently alongside the first picks, giving fans nearly 50% more live NFL matches across Sky Sports NFL, Sky Sports+, and Sky Sports Mix.
In addition, Sky has secured rights to show all NFL international games staged in Europe — including fixtures in London, Dublin, and Madrid, alongside the increasingly popular games in Germany.
Programming staples such as Thursday Night Football, Sunday Night Football, Monday Night Football, NFL RedZone, Thanksgiving games, the Playoffs, and the Super Bowl will continue to feature prominently across Sky platforms.
Strengthening the NFL’s UK Presence
The renewal underlines the NFL’s ambitions in the UK, a priority market for its international expansion strategy.
Jonathan Licht, Sky’s Chief Sports Officer, emphasised the league’s momentum:
“The sport continues to grow and captivate UK audiences, which we saw first-hand with record-breaking Super Bowl LVII viewership. With more games than ever before, we’re excited to offer further value to our customers and continue to bring fans world-class coverage.”
NFL International chief Gerrit Meier echoed that sentiment, crediting Sky as a key partner in growing fandom and helping bring the league to new audiences.
The announcement comes just days after the NFL struck a free-to-air partnership with Channel 5, part of Paramount Global. The deal ensures broader accessibility with two Sunday evening fixtures each week, selected international games, three Playoff games, and the Super Bowl available live on free-to-air TV for the first time in two decades.
Together, these agreements underline a layered media strategy: premium coverage through Sky for core fans, paired with free-to-air accessibility via Channel 5 to widen reach.
