Meta is reportedly close to finalizing nearly $30 billion in funding for a gigawatt-scale data center development in rural Louisiana. The project, known as Hyperion, is set to become one of the largest in the world and a cornerstone of Meta’s AI infrastructure expansion.
According to industry sources, Pacific Investment Management Co. (Pimco) will lead approximately $26 billion in debt financing, while Blue Owl Capital Inc. is expected to contribute $3 billion in equity. Investment bank Morgan Stanleyhas been assisting Meta in securing the capital.
A Mega Campus with Gigawatt Ambitions
The Hyperion site spans 2,250 acres between Rayville and Delhi, around 30 miles east of Monroe, Louisiana. Renderings indicate plans for up to nine buildings covering nearly 4 million square feet. The development will be completed in phases through 2030 and could eventually scale to 5 gigawatts of capacity.
Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg has previously confirmed the company’s plans to construct multiple “titan” AI-focused data clusters, with Hyperion being one of the largest. The first of these mega-builds, Prometheus, is scheduled to go live in 2026.
Strategic Partnerships in a Rapid Build-Out
The Louisiana facility will be one of around 30 data center campuses Meta has in operation or development globally. To keep up with its aggressive expansion, Meta is both self-financing and seeking co-development partnerships. The company has also indicated part of the project may use natural gas for power.
Blue Owl has been stepping up its presence in the data center sector, closing a $7 billion digital infrastructure fund, acquiring IPI Partners, and partnering in a $5 billion joint venture to build AI-focused facilities across the U.S. Pimco, owned by Allianz Group, has also expanded into the sector, launching its European data center platform in 2023.
With construction set to run over several years, the Hyperion campus is poised to be a critical asset in supporting Meta’s push into AI and cloud infrastructure at unprecedented scale.
