Gamuda Doubles Down in Taiwan with RM4.28 Billion in Infrastructure Wins

Malaysia’s infrastructure giant Gamuda Bhd has significantly expanded its footprint in Taiwan, clinching two major contracts worth a combined RM4.28 billion—marking its eighth and ninth project wins in the country.

Contract 1: LNG Terminal Wharf & Roads (RM3.72 billion)
Awarded on June 30, Gamuda leads a 70:30 joint venture with Taiwan’s Dong Pi Co Ltd to deliver marine and transport infrastructure for the Kaohsiung Port Intercontinental LNG Terminal. The five-year project will see the development of:

  • 2.19km seawall featuring 87 caissons
  • 1.2km of connecting bridges
  • 729-meter wharf
  • Critical unloading and service platforms
  • Vehicle access infrastructure and berthing docks

This is not just a port project—it’s a vital asset supporting Taiwan’s energy diversification through increased LNG imports.

Contract 2: 345kV Underground Transmission Line (RM557.2 million)
In March, Gamuda also secured a power infrastructure contract through a 50:50 joint venture with Feng Shun Construction Co Ltd.

  • The 44-month build includes 4 underground shafts and a 3.2km cable tunnel, enhancing Taiwan’s high-voltage grid.
  • It’s part of the Gangfeng-Zhongke to Hengshan power corridor, a critical component of Taiwan’s energy reliability strategy.

Gamuda’s expanding role in Taiwan signals a regional pivot toward long-cycle, high-impact infrastructure projects—especially those aligned with energy resilience, marine logistics, and underground utilities. Taiwan, facing growing energy demand and a desire for modernised infrastructure, is actively tapping into Southeast Asian engineering expertise.

Since 2002, Gamuda has played a prominent role in shaping Taiwan’s urban and industrial ecosystems—from the Kaohsiung MRT orange and yellow lines to the TaoYuan underground rail and multiple marine structures. This latest wave of wins consolidates its position as a trusted foreign contractor with local adaptability.

With marine engineering, energy transmission, and urban transit all in play, Gamuda is not just building Taiwan’s infrastructure—it’s embedding itself in its strategic future.
