FIBA Extends Broadcast Partnership with Cignal TV in the Philippines

FIBA, basketball’s international governing body, has renewed its long-standing media partnership in the Philippines with satellite broadcaster Cignal TV, securing coverage across multiple platforms for the next four years.

The deal ensures fans in the Philippines will continue to access FIBA competitions through a wide range of channels and digital platforms. Broadcasts will run across free-to-air outlets One Sports and RPTV, subscription channels One Sports+ and PBA Rush, and the OTT platforms Pilipinas Live, Cignal Play, and Cignal Super.

The Pilipinas Live app will provide fans with video-on-demand access for every FIBA game, alongside exclusive curated content such as highlights and behind-the-scenes features.

Major Events Included

As part of the new agreement, Cignal will air all major FIBA events and qualifiers, including the 2027 FIBA Basketball World Cup and the 32nd edition of the FIBA Women’s Asia Cup, which will be hosted in the Philippines that same year.

This extension continues a relationship that began in 2017, pushing the partnership between Cignal and FIBA into its second decade.

Driving Growth in Basketball’s Strongest Market

The Philippines is one of the most passionate basketball markets in the world, and FIBA has consistently leaned on strong broadcast partners to drive growth. The most recent FIBA Basketball World Cup highlighted the country’s unrivalled enthusiasm for the game, with local fans breaking attendance records and showcasing basketball’s cultural importance in the region.

Frank Leenders, director general of FIBA Media and Marketing Services, underlined the importance of the deal:

“As we saw at the last FIBA Basketball World Cup, the passion for basketball in the Philippines is incredible, and Cignal has already proven how important it is to have a respected and valued broadcast partner who can meet that voracious appetite for the sport. Growing the FIBA game globally is something we always have in our minds, and the acceleration in popularity shows no signs of slowing down – thanks to the work of our broadcast partners such as Cignal.”

Strategic Significance

For FIBA, this renewal strengthens its presence in one of basketball’s most loyal fan markets while preparing for major events in 2027. For Cignal, the agreement reinforces its position as the go-to destination for basketball fans in the Philippines across broadcast and digital platforms.

With the Philippines set to host a marquee women’s tournament in 2027 and continue its role as a vital basketball hub in Asia, this partnership underscores how media rights remain a cornerstone in growing the global game.
