A strategic recalibration or profit booking? UAE-based investor Envestcom Holding RSC Ltd has made a decisive move to significantly trim its exposure in Adani Energy Solutions, selling shares worth approximately ₹1,737 crore. The exit comes at a time when the Indian energy infrastructure major is beginning to show signs of robust financial recovery.
A Substantial Equity Exit: Below the 1% Threshold
On August 6, 2025, Envestcom executed a large-scale equity divestment, offloading 2.2 crore shares of Adani Energy Solutions via bulk trades across the NSE and BSE. The shares were sold at an average of ₹790 each, with the sale representing roughly 1.8% of the company’s total equity. Following the transaction, Envestcom’s holding has dipped below 1%, down from 2.7% as reported at the end of Q1FY26.
This reduction places Envestcom below the public disclosure threshold, signaling either a partial strategic exit or a repositioning of capital towards other high-growth opportunities.
Adani’s Q1FY26 Performance: A Turnaround in Motion
The timing of this equity withdrawal is noteworthy. In the quarter ending June 2025, Adani Energy Solutions posted a net profit of ₹512 crore, marking a stark contrast to a loss of ₹824 crore in the same quarter the year prior. While last year’s figure was weighed down by a one-time exceptional cost of ₹1,506 crore, the latest quarter came clean—free of extraordinary charges.
Revenue surged 27% year-on-year to ₹6,819 crore, and EBITDA saw a moderate 3.1% increase to ₹2,315 crore, although operating margins declined from 42% to 34%, reflecting some efficiency challenges amidst scale.
Strategic Insight: While the topline growth is promising, the margin compression signals a business balancing expansion with cost structure optimization.
Foreign Investment Landscape Remains Strong
Despite Envestcom’s exit, foreign interest in Adani Energy Solutions remains firm. Other prominent foreign portfolio investors (FPIs) include:
- INQ Holding LLC: 1.1% stake
- GQG Partners: 5.2% stake
Their continued involvement underlines global investor confidence in Adani’s long-term infrastructure play—particularly in transmission and distribution as India upgrades its power backbone.
