Bwin has been unveiled as the new title sponsor of the MotoGP Austrian Grand Prix, stepping into the role ahead of the 2025 edition of the race. The agreement, struck with Dorna Sports, the commercial rights holder of MotoGP, rebrands the event as the Bwin Grand Prix of Austria.
The betting operator replaces CryptoDATA, which had held naming rights from 2022 through 2024. The deal reflects Bwin’s ongoing push to strengthen its brand visibility in global motorsport.
A Strengthened Partnership at the Red Bull Ring
The Austrian Grand Prix takes place at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg, with this year’s event running across the weekend of August 17. Domestic fans continue to access coverage via ServusTV, which holds rights through 2026. In addition to MotoGP’s premier class, ServusTV also broadcasts Moto2, Moto3, MotoE, and the Red Bull MotoGP Rookies Cup, expanding the event’s reach across multiple tiers of racing.
The sponsorship comes shortly after a new long-term hosting contract was signed between Dorna Sports and the Red Bull Ring. The Austrian Grand Prix will now remain on the calendar until at least 2030, extending the previous agreement which was due to expire in 2025.
Reinforcing MotoGP’s Global Calendar
Austria’s race is one piece of MotoGP’s broader strategy to secure its future calendar. Since its return in 2016, the Austrian Grand Prix has quickly re-established itself as a fan-favorite event, having previously run annually between 1971 and 1997.
Dorna Sports, now under the ownership of Liberty Media—the same group behind Formula 1—has been aggressive in securing long-term deals with circuits worldwide. Recent extensions include:
- Motegi Mobility Resort (Japan) – secured until 2030.
- Autódromo Oscar y Juan Galvez (Argentina) – set to return in 2027 after a 30-year gap.
- Sachsenring (Germany) and Le Mans (France) – extended until 2031.
- Valencia (Ricardo Tormo Circuit) and Barcelona-Catalunya – renewed for five more years.
- Algarve (Portugal) – confirmed until at least 2026.
- Brno (Czech Republic) – reinstated for the 2025 season and contracted through 2029.
These moves are part of MotoGP’s record-setting rights renewal through 2060, a landmark deal struck in 2024 that ensures long-term stability for the series.
Commercial Significance
For Bwin, this sponsorship provides a prime opportunity to associate its brand with one of the most prestigious events on the MotoGP calendar, tapping into both a domestic Austrian audience and a global fanbase. For MotoGP, the partnership reinforces the commercial strength of its races and highlights the sport’s growing alignment with major international betting and entertainment brands.
