Bundesliga Extends Rights Deal with DAZN Canada Through 2027-28

Bundesliga International, the global commercial rights division of Germany’s top-tier football structure, has confirmed a two-season extension of its broadcast partnership with DAZN Canada, securing coverage through the 2027-28 season.

Full Access for Canadian Fans

Under the new agreement, DAZN subscribers will gain access to every match from both the Bundesliga and 2. Bundesliga, along with the annual Supercup curtain raiser and highlights programming. This builds upon the existing deal, which ran from 2023-24 to 2025-26, and included at least six live Bundesliga games per week, 2. Bundesliga action, the German Supercup, and the relegation playoffs.

Deidra Dionna, Vice President of DAZN Canada, highlighted the importance of the extension: “We’re thrilled to extend our partnership with the Bundesliga and continue bringing world-class German soccer to fans across Canada. With full access to every Bundesliga match and the Franz Beckenbauer Supercup—as well as top-tier Bundesliga 2 action—we’re proud to deliver unmatched coverage and storytelling across all our platforms. And with Canadian star Alphonso Davies poised for a big return, there’s never been a more exciting time for fans to tune in.”

Spotlight on Alphonso Davies and 2026 FIFA World Cup

The presence of Canadian star Alphonso Davies with Bayern Munich continues to boost the Bundesliga’s profile in Canada. His influence is expected to grow further as Canada co-hosts the 2026 FIFA World Cup alongside the US and Mexico, making the timing of this rights extension particularly strategic.

Bundesliga’s Global Rights Expansion

Peer Naubert, CEO of Bundesliga International, added: “With the FIFA 2026 World Cup just around the corner, the appetite for soccer in Canada has never been greater. But to successfully capitalize on such momentum requires a strong partner, and in DAZN, we know we are in a great position to deliver the best of the Bundesliga.”

This extension is part of the Bundesliga’s wider global rights strategy. In recent weeks, the league has announced several new agreements ahead of the 2025-26 season:

  • MENA: A three-year deal with MBC Group, including streaming on Shahid and FTA coverage on MBC Action.
  • UK & Ireland: A diversified broadcast mix with Sky Sports, Prime Video, BBC iPlayer, and YouTube platforms.
  • Japan: DAZN secured exclusive rights, while Abema picked up FTA coverage for 2025-26.
  • Asia: Deals with Viettel in Vietnam and PPTV in Thailand.
  • Europe: A four-year extension with United Media across nine Southeast European territories and a renewed partnership with Sky Italia in Italy.

Outlook

The DAZN Canada extension underscores the Bundesliga’s commitment to strengthening its presence in North America ahead of the 2026 World Cup. With global stars, competitive football, and tailored broadcast strategies, the league is positioning itself to capture new audiences and maximize growth in a rapidly evolving sports media landscape.
