Professional boxing is set to make a high-profile return to free-to-air prime-time television in the UK, following a landmark broadcast agreement between the BBC and leading promotional company Boxxer.
Under the deal, the BBC will showcase fights from select Boxxer events live on BBC TV, as well as via BBC iPlayer and the BBC Sport website. This multi-platform approach will give fans access to world-class bouts at no cost, both on traditional television and digital channels.
Boxxer’s roster features some of the biggest names in British boxing, including Olympic gold medallist and world champion Lauren Price. The organisation, led by promoter Ben Shalom, has built a reputation for delivering blockbuster events — from the historic all-women’s card headlined by Price and Natasha Jonas, to high-profile matchups like Amir Khan v Kell Brook, Liam Smith v Chris Eubank Jr, Claressa Shields v Savannah Marshall, and Fabio Wardley v Frazer Clarke.
The first BBC-broadcast event is expected before the end of the year, with official dates and headline fights to be confirmed in the coming weeks.
Shalom described the collaboration as a “historic moment” for the sport, emphasising that the platform will enable British boxing’s most exciting fighters to reach the widest possible audience.
Alex Kay-Jelski, Director of BBC Sport, echoed the sentiment, calling it “an exciting moment” for boxing fans and a major step in delivering the sport to new audiences.
