Amazon to Launch AI Agent Marketplace with Anthropic as Flagship Partner

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is gearing up to launch a dedicated AI Agent Marketplace on July 15 at the AWS Summit in New York City, marking a pivotal moment in the race toward commercializing artificial intelligence agents at scale. One of its key launch partners? Anthropic, the fast-rising AI firm already backed by Amazon.

While AWS has not publicly commented on the launch, two sources familiar with the development confirmed that the marketplace will serve as a centralized hub for developers, startups, and enterprise customers to discover, deploy, and commercialize AI agents—self-operating software tools that execute tasks, make decisions, and interact with digital systems with minimal human input.

The move is Amazon’s strongest push yet to democratize access to agent-based AI systems, following in the footsteps of Google Cloud’s Agent Marketplace and Microsoft’s Agent Store within Microsoft 365 Copilot. Unlike siloed implementations offered by individual vendors, Amazon’s new platform is designed as an open marketplace, offering plug-and-play access to agent solutions developed by third-party startups and independent developers.

What Are AI Agents, and Why Are They Important?

AI agents are not merely chatbots—they are autonomous, decision-making digital entities that interact with software, manipulate data, and execute commands using advanced AI models. Whether it’s onboarding a customer, summarizing legal documents, or orchestrating backend IT systems, AI agents represent a shift from passive tools to active participants in enterprise workflows.

With big names like OpenAI and Anthropic evangelizing the concept, Silicon Valley’s VC ecosystem is pouring capital into agent-focused startups, betting that these systems will underpin the next generation of AI-enabled businesses.

AWS x Anthropic: A Strategic Advantage

Anthropic’s involvement as a marketplace partner is both expected and significant. The company already benefits from Amazon’s strategic investment, and sources suggest another multibillion-dollar round of funding from the e-commerce giant is in the pipeline.

Anthropic has been vocal about its agent-first vision for AI. The firm not only builds ready-to-use AI agents but also provides developers with APIs and tooling to create bespoke agents on top of its Claude language models. Its participation in AWS’ marketplace could substantially increase its reach, especially among enterprise clients who are already embedded in the Amazon cloud ecosystem.

From a monetization standpoint, AWS is expected to charge a light commission on agent sales, allowing vendors to price their agents similarly to SaaS products—monthly, per-use, or even performance-based.
