IKON Capital Acquires Tech3 MotoGP Team

In a landmark move for global motorsport, IKON Capital has officially acquired the Tech3 MotoGP™ team, marking the beginning of a transformative chapter for one of the sport’s most respected outfits. Alongside the acquisition, IKON announced the appointments of Guenther Steiner as Chief Executive Officer and Richard Coleman as Team Principal — two figures renowned for their leadership, vision, and impact across motorsport disciplines.

This acquisition comes at a defining moment for MotoGP™, following Liberty Media’s recent takeover of the championship — a shift widely seen as the catalyst for a new era of commercial expansion and entertainment-driven growth. For IKON Capital, the acquisition represents the culmination of over a year of strategic development, aligning with the company’s ambition to redefine motorsport team ownership and transform Tech3 into a next-generation sports franchise.

Both Steiner and Coleman have been exploring opportunities within MotoGP™ for more than two years, united by a shared belief in the sport’s global potential and the Tech3 team’s strong foundation. Their arrival signals a clear intent to elevate the brand, culture, and commercial sophistication of the team while maintaining its deep racing heritage.

Tech3’s Legacy and Future Vision

Founded in 1990, Tech3 has established itself as one of MotoGP™’s most enduring and competitive teams, securing 38 podium finishes and two Grand Prix victories since joining the premier class in 2001. Its long-standing reputation for developing young talent and competing at the highest level has made it a cornerstone of the MotoGP paddock.

Outgoing team leader Hervé Poncharal, who built Tech3 into a respected and independent force, will continue to lead the team through the current season before transitioning into a consultant role, focused on mentoring and developing the next generation of riders and team personnel. The team will continue racing under the Tech3 name, operating from its French base and continuing its partnership with KTM machinery.

A Modern Motorsport Franchise Model

Under Steiner and Coleman’s leadership, the vision extends beyond race performance. The goal is to evolve Tech3 into a modern motorsport franchise — blending competition, media, and entertainment to align with MotoGP’s global growth trajectory. This approach mirrors the broader transformation of motorsport into an integrated ecosystem of sport, culture, and fan engagement.

With new ownership, visionary leadership, and a renewed strategic direction, the Tech3 acquisition marks the convergence of tradition and innovation — and the start of an ambitious new era for MotoGP™ under IKON Capital’s stewardship.
