French sports daily L’Équipe has announced a new four-year distribution partnership with the Ligue de Football Professionnel (LFP), introducing a bundled subscription package: L’Équipe + Ligue 1+. The service officially launched on Tuesday, September 23, at a promotional rate of €14.99 per month.
A New Way to Watch Ligue 1
Starting this week, fans will be able to watch eight live Ligue 1 matches each round via Ligue 1+ — now integrated into L’Équipe’s ecosystem. The ninth fixture, broadcast live on beIN Sports, will be available on delay each weekend.
The first showcase under the new arrangement will be Strasbourg vs Marseille on Friday, September 26 at 20:45. The match will stream not only on Ligue 1+ but also across L’Équipe’s digital platforms — website, mobile app, tablet, and connected TV app — including within the brand’s signature live commentary experience.
What the Subscription Includes?
The bundled plan provides more than live games:
- Two weekly Ligue 1+ magazine shows (Saturday & Sunday)
- Trophée des Champions coverage
- End-of-season multiplexes and playoffs
- Exclusive documentaries
- Unlimited access to all L’Équipe content, including analysis, interviews, newsletters, podcasts, the L’Équipe Live Foot channel, and digital editions of L’Équipe, France Football, and Vélo Magazine.
For fans, this represents a single subscription model combining live rights with L’Équipe’s editorial depth — offering year-round engagement before, during, and after matches.
Pricing Structure
- Launch offer (until October 8): €14.99 per month for the first three months, with a 12-month commitment.
- After three months: €19.99 per month (with commitment) or €24.99 (without).
- Existing digital subscribers to L’Équipe can switch to the new combined plan.
- The subscription allows two users to watch simultaneously, appealing to households and shared accounts.
Why It Matters
This deal represents more than just a new subscription tier. It reflects the evolution of sports media in France, where traditional outlets are increasingly merging journalism with live rights to create direct-to-consumer platforms.
For the LFP, it extends Ligue 1’s reach through one of France’s most trusted sports brands. For L’Équipe, it strengthens its transition from newspaper to multi-platform media hub, offering subscribers one-stop access to football content, live matches, and analysis.
The promotional pricing also signals a clear attempt to convert casual readers into paying subscribers, leveraging Ligue 1’s popularity as a hook.
Final Word
L’Équipe’s bundled model shows how sports broadcasters and publishers are adapting to fragmented viewing habits: merging live rights with editorial storytelling and cross-platform accessibility.
For fans, it offers convenience. For the industry, it could mark the beginning of media partnerships where traditional outlets become hybrid broadcasters — redefining how football is consumed in France.
