Arsenal Reshapes Boardroom with Kroenke-Backed Appointments

Arsenal Football Club has confirmed a significant shake-up of its boardroom, with four new figures joining to strengthen the club’s governance and long-term strategy. The changes bring additional expertise from sports finance, operations, and even the entertainment industry, as Stan and Josh Kroenke continue to put their stamp on the Premier League giant.

A Mix of Experience and Fresh Perspectives

While long-serving director Lord Philip Harris of Peckham remains in place, the new appointments reflect the influence of Kroenke Sports & Entertainment (KSE), Arsenal’s majority ownership group.

  • Richard Garlick – Already familiar to Arsenal supporters, Garlick has been with the club since 2021 as director of football operations. His elevation to the board strengthens the link between football operations and top-level governance.
  • Ben Winston – A lifelong Arsenal supporter and season-ticket holder for more than 30 years, Winston joins as a non-executive director. Best known for his career in television and film, his background adds a media-savvy dimension to the board.
  • Otto Maly – Based in Missouri, Maly is president and director of special projects at KSE. His role involves overseeing the day-to-day running of the holding company, giving him close proximity to Kroenke’s broader sports empire.
  • Kelly Blaha – Appointed as a non-executive director, Blaha brings her experience as KSE’s senior vice president of sports finance. Her addition signals a sharper focus on financial oversight and operational strategy.
  • Dave Steiner – With a career in public accounting spanning nearly five decades, Steiner co-founded EKS&H before its merger with Plante Moran in 2018. His experience spans energy, transportation, and real estate, offering Arsenal financial and business expertise beyond the sports sector.

Kroenke’s Vision for Arsenal

Josh Kroenke welcomed the new additions, emphasizing their shared passion for the club and the diverse skills they bring to the table.

“The group know and love Arsenal, and will bring a different skillset and expertise while injecting fresh thinking and energy to support us all to achieve our ambitions,” Kroenke said.

The appointments underline KSE’s intent to align Arsenal more closely with the governance structures of U.S. sports franchises, blending commercial acumen with fan-facing expertise.

What It Means?

For Arsenal, the boardroom refresh comes at a time of renewed optimism both on and off the pitch. With Mikel Arteta’s team competing at the highest level again, the ownership is ensuring that off-field leadership is equally prepared to meet the demands of modern football: balancing financial sustainability, global fan engagement, and competitive success.

The inclusion of figures from outside football, particularly in media and finance, also reflects the evolving nature of elite clubs — as entertainment platforms, global brands, and community institutions.
