TNT Sports Secures Domestic Broadcast Rights for Tour of Britain

The Tour of Britain, the UK’s most prestigious men’s road cycling race, has confirmed a major broadcast addition for 2024. TNT Sports will join the domestic lineup of broadcasters, airing live coverage of the six-stage race from September 2 to 7.

Alongside TNT’s coverage on its linear channels, the race will also stream on Discovery+, the digital platform of Warner Bros. Discovery (WBD).

Expanding the Broadcast Footprint

This latest agreement sits alongside existing deals already in place:

  • ITV will continue its long-running partnership, with live coverage on its free-to-air channel and streaming on ITVX. The renewal marks the 13th consecutive live edition of the race on ITV and the 17th broadcast overall since 2008.
  • The BBC carried the women’s edition of the race earlier this year, maintaining the split of rights across UK broadcasters.

With both free-to-air and pay-TV coverage secured, British Cycling has successfully ensured the Tour of Britain will remain widely accessible while also benefiting from premium broadcast storytelling.

WBD’s Cycling Ambitions

Scott Young, Executive Vice President of WBD Sports Europe, emphasized the importance of the partnership:

“While our cycling coverage is global, we are passionate about telling local stories for the widest possible audience. That’s why, as the home of cycling in the UK and Ireland, we’re thrilled to partner with British Cycling to showcase the country’s most prestigious road race on our channels and platforms.”

This aligns with WBD’s broader cycling strategy, which positions TNT Sports and Discovery+ as the central platforms for major international and domestic cycling events.

A Strengthened Commercial Ecosystem

Since 2023, the Tour of Britain — both men’s and women’s editions — has been organized directly by British Cycling, following the end of its licensing arrangement with events company SweetSpot. This centralization has allowed the governing body to better align broadcast, sponsorship, and event operations.

A pivotal moment came in May 2023, when Lloyds Bank was named title sponsor of both Tour of Britain events as part of a long-term commercial partnership. This sponsorship has elevated the financial sustainability of the races, while simultaneously embedding a blue-chip UK brand into the national cycling calendar.

365247 Insight

The addition of TNT Sports to the domestic broadcast mix is more than just a rights deal. It reflects three critical trends in sports media:

  1. Multi-Platform Coverage – Ensuring visibility across free-to-air, pay-TV, and streaming platforms is now essential for maximizing audience and sponsor value.
  2. National Storytelling – WBD’s emphasis on local narratives underscores the growing importance of regional engagement within global broadcast strategies.
  3. Governance Shift – British Cycling’s direct control over the event has enabled a more integrated commercial model, strengthening the tournament’s positioning as both a sporting and sponsorship asset.

As women’s and men’s cycling continue to grow in visibility, the Tour of Britain is positioning itself not just as a race, but as a showcase for how governance, media, and commercial partners can align to elevate a sport in a competitive marketplace.
